The United Soccer League (USL) is the largest and fastest-growing professional soccer organization in North America, possessing more than a decade of experience in bringing the world’s game to communities across the United States and Canada. Overseeing the USL Championship (USSF Division II), USL League One (USSF Division III), and USL League Two (Pre-Professional), the organization is built on a proven and recognized model in international football and counts more than 125 clubs in its membership. That membership will expand with the addition of the pre-professional W League, kicking off in 2022 and the Super League, which will apply for Division II professional sanctioning and kick off in 2023, doubling the amount of professional women’s soccer teams in the United States.

Based in Tampa, Fla., the USL has grown during the past decade into a model organization with strong partnerships including ESPN, stable organizational leadership and a dedicated staff of more than 80 professionals across 17 departments for unparalleled support to member clubs. Sanctioned by the U.S. Soccer Federation, the USL is #UnitedForSoccer, moving the game forward in North America.

Since its launch in 2017, United Soccer League’s (USL) League One has quickly become the fastest growing professional soccer league in North America. USL League One aims to bring professional soccer to fans in communities across the country and currently comprises 12 teams for the 2021 season with Northern Colorado FC (Windsor, CO) and Central Valley Fuego FC (Fresno, CA) joining league play in 2022.

The USL W League is a pre-professional women’s elite soccer league set to kick off in May 2022. It will serve as the nation’s premier pre-professional league developing the next generation of women’s soccer talent both on and off the pitch. The USL W League strives to elevate women’s soccer as a force to grow the game by creating a national platform and pathway to increase opportunity, gender equity and career development for women who want a career in sports as a player and/or in the front office. USL Spokane W League’s team is just the first step in a larger commitment to gender equity, and creating a youth-to-professional pathway for girls and women in the region.

USL Spokane is building from the pitch up - a blank canvas and a true Spokane startup. It is a club for Spokane, by Spokane and with the greater Spokane community. The logo, colors and name of “USL Spokane” are a temporary placeholder. The club is hosting a series of listening sessions, online surveys and conversations with community groups as it creates its crest, colors and names. In June 2021, Cindy Wendle was named the President of USL Spokane. Wendle will lead all facets of the day-to-day operations, laying the necessary foundation and building the initial infrastructure for both the League One and W League teams. The club is setting up offices in downtown Spokane and is currently in the process of hiring. Soccer operations will be led under a yet-to-be-announced sporting director with the development of team rosters to take place prior to each team’s season.

As the league’s presence increases around the country, it is committed to investing alongside committed investment groups that share a passion for the world’s game and local community, in order to build clubs that authentically represent the people and place they play for and use soccer as a force for good.

The USL is in the process of selecting an ownership group that is the best fit for the club and community.

Both the League One and W League teams will play their home matches at the new downtown stadium located on the north bank of the Spokane River and within walking distance of Riverfront Park.

On May 5, 2021 the Spokane Public Schools Board voted to approve the construction of a $31 million, 5,000-seat downtown stadium that would serve as the home of a League One expansion club, as well as host events for all five of the public high schools in the city in a centrally located venue. The stadium, which will be developed, managed and operated by the Spokane Public Facilities District, is set to be an economic catalyst for Spokane, generating a projected $11.4 million in annual economic impact, while also saving the school department $22.5 million over the lifespan of the venue.

ARE TICKETS ON SALE?

Yes…You can place a deposit for seats in the new downtown stadium for League One and/or W League. These deposits will help fans hold a ‘virtual place in line’ and priority seating for when season tickets become available. USL Spokane will have a variety of ticket options available that ensure the matches are affordable and attainable for everyone, including sections specific to supporters, youth soccer teams and students.

For anyone who grew up playing or watching soccer in Eastern Washington, you know we have amazing homegrown soccer talent. USL Spokane is committed to showcasing that talent and creating pathways for these players to wear Spokane across their hearts.

The League One team will host open tryouts closer to the inaugural season to identify local, regional and even international talent. USL Spokane’s W League team will be pre-professional, open to elite youth players, collegiate players, aspiring professionals and former professionals. The W League is focused on developing the next wave of elite talent in the women’s game while also respecting the amateur status of players in order to protect collegiate eligibility. The USL League One season runs from March to October with playoffs running through the end of November. The USL W League season runs from May to July with playoffs running through early August.

As USL Spokane continues building, the club will work with local supporters in the region to support the development of an independent supporter group to represent Spokane and the Eastern Washington region. As part of the US Soccer family, USL Spokane is committed to growing the game and providing as many youth as possible the opportunity to play the sport. First and foremost, this includes elevating and supporting the region’s existing youth programs at all levels and ensuring access for both boys and girls. The club is committed to creating programs and opportunities with partners to bring the world’s game to neighborhoods or community groups that currently don’t have any form of organized soccer or places to play, especially for youth and families with limited finances.
